Meet the Team: Chloe

April 12, 2024

One of our New Years Resolutions was to share and introduce members of the team. This month it’s the turn of Funeral Director, Chloe Bullen.

How did you become a Funeral Director?

I left college and started working as receptionist at a local funeral directors and progressed to becoming a funeral director. I joined R. Locke & Son in August 2023.

What do you think is the most important thing you do in your role to help people arrange a funeral?

For many people it’s the first time they have had to arrange a funeral. I’m there as a support for the family, guiding them through the paperwork, process and arrangements for the funeral and taking the time to listen to what they are saying about their loved one. Giving that support and guidance at a really difficult time and making sure their wishes are fulfilled.

What is your favourite part of the job?

Listening to families stories about their loved one and helping them to plan a funeral that reflects that persons life. Sometimes people have very clear ideas about what they want. I’ve arranged for florists to create tributes in the shape of an owl or motorbike in the past.

Sometimes it’s very small simple things that can make a funeral special. Recently a family were sharing how their loved one was very involved in many groups and activities where they lived. I suggested that instead of going straight from their home to the service we could drive their coffin past important places, such as their allotment and the pub and pause there for a moment as a ‘last goodbye’. It’s important to me, that families have a good memory of the funeral.

Just for fun…
