R. Locke & Son are are proud to have been award the Greener Globe Funeral Standard (GGFS) standards Bronze Award to improve our environmental practice, not just in our offering to clients and families but also with the decisions we make as a business.
Our commitment to 'Generations of Care' is not just about honouring the past, but also looking to take care of our environment and company for the generations to come.
As part of our commitment to protecting the environment and preventing pollution we pledge to advise our clients openly and honestly. By providing bereaved families with clear, digestible information on a range of options, relating to both natural and traditional funerals, we aim to empower people to make informed decisions and encourage environmental best practice in funerals.
We understand the urgent need for change to protect the planet and recognise the importance of aligning our business with the UK's climate and biodiversity commitments. For us, this means continual improvement in our environmental performance alongside consistent regulatory compliance. We will achieve best practice by working to objectives that minimise our environmental impact in the following areas.
T - Transport
We will select our hearses, limousines and first response vehicles for their reduced emissions.
R - Reducing water wastage
We will reduce our water usage wherever possible and in the longer term, endeavour to reduce it further.
U - Use of sustainable energy
We will seek to manage our electricity and gas supplies to ensure minimum consumption through energy efficiency and improvement initiatives and where possible, switching to renewable energy providers and renewable heating systems.
S - Sustainable supplies and procurement
We will manage the procurement of goods and services ensuring sustainable and ethical sources are used wherever possible e.g. we will use coffin suppliers whose materials are sourced from managed, sustainable resources and be mindful to use coffins that have minimal impact on the environment.
T - The management of waste
We will utilise the hierarchy of waste management so that materials are re-used or recycled wherever possible. We will encourage the reduction in the use of single use plastics. We will ensure that any waste suitable for reuse or recycling is separated and all waste is disposed of appropriately.
